Sunday nights are usually reserved for flaking on the couch and nursing a sore head from the night before. This is exactly how I intended to spend my Sunday night last week. Instead I found myself in a graffitied Melbourne laneway rubbing shoulders with the uber cool and exceptionally fashionable at
La Carte Blanche's Urban Upbringing fashion show.
If you didn't know any better you would have thought the invitation stressed black only (with a hint of Gothic), as there was barely a soul who wasn't dressed in the typical Melbourne uniform.
Walking past the beautiful people (who evidently existed that day to make me feel even worse) I made my way to my seat - a silver beer keg, which visually looked great but when your legs can barely touch the ground it doesn't make for very eloquent front row seating.
What followed was a parade of some of the most promising up and coming designers - all who managed to display that distinct Melbourne feel in each of their collections.
Joseph Jang, Kosta J. Peters, Geoffrey Haining and Miss Lyndel Yeo provided us with lots of black, lots of leather, lots of structural pieces and even themes of fetish fashion.
