Please hurry back. I am freezing to within an inch of my life and no amount of chunky knits and gas heaters will compensate for your delightfully balmy 30+ degree days.

I want to be where Jennifer Aniston is on that beach, I want to be back in Sicily floating in the Mediterranean sea, I want my skin to be golden, I want to be clothed in nothing but bikinis and sand, I want freckles and skin bathed in sunscreen, I want to feel burnt and look like I'm forever blushing, I want red and yellow sunsets and wide brimmed hats because...

Writers block strikes often. Sometimes the ideas just don't flow like they should. Other times however, the ideas and words fly around my head, but the ability to express them is lost.

Such is the case when I see THESE street photos of THIS girl from style clicker.

There are so many things that I want to say about this thrown together slash carefully crafted ensemble and yet my backspace button continues to get a working as nothing is coming out quite right.

I am at a loss for words, however I will say this,

LOVE that girl, LOVE her shoes, LOVE her hat, LOVE her wee woolen knits.

LOVE so much, I raided my cupboard and pulled out my long woolen American-Indian inspired cardigan from Zara Fall 2009 and the $25 hat that that I scored from Victoria Markets a few shopping infused Sundays ago.

...they say flattery is one of life's greater compliments, I hope she agrees...

When you think American football you often think of huddles, head gear, receivers, Miller Lite beer and hot dogs. I doubt legions of football fans would think fashion.

Yet, behold Sandra Backlund.

It appears that Backlund (much like Alexander Wang spring/summer 10) has taken inspiration directly from the all American quarterback, in that its all about the super sized shoulders (rather than the super sized american meal deal). And might I say, she sure is on to a winning formula.

The blatantly overdone shoulders are accompanied by embellishments of the prettiest kind and each and every piece is handcrafted and knit by Backlund herself (she often sequesters herself in her studio with her knitting needles for hours on end). She is one of those designers whereby her pieces are more a work of art than a garment.

So whilst Backlund and her homeland of Sweden may know very little about American football, the concept of the knitted quarterback may be something that they and all those in the fashion know might want to look into - as it is essentially a garment that not only keeps you warm and looks on-trend, but has the potential to prevent injuries.

Backlund, you might say, is something of an all-rounder.

So technically us Melbournians are heading towards the sunnier side of the year. However one thing I have come to learn from living here all my life is that you should never pack your winter gear away and expect not to see it until autumn. Our weather does not allow for such a luxury. We have been known to have all four seasons in one day...and this all before lunch.

On the other side of the world however, they are likely to be fully embracing the season of the chunky knit with gusto. And why wouldn't they? Topshop's Unique line and Julien MacDonald (just a select few) have put forth some great knit options as part of their fall range and others have undoubtedly followed suit. You can either wear the chunky knit as an accessory (introducing the super sized scarf) or an over sized jumper dress/cardigan (my personal choice) or even as the fall season's version of the cutaway look (yes it is possible).

So with all this in mind I think I will keep my newly purchased chunky knit cardigan from Zara on the top shelf of my wardrobe...just in case a spring day turns into a winter nightmare.
