Riccardo Tisci ruined my day

Givenchy's autumn winter 2010/2011 couture collection by Riccardo Tisci. Need I say more?

Oh but I will.

Tumbling kilo grams of gold sequins, seventies flapper style fringing, chards of chantilly lace, feathers of the most exquisite kind and all this draped on the bodies of the eternally beautiful, falling to perfection on their tiny, elegant shoulders.

Just for one day I would like to be one of these models in one of these dresses. Is that too much to ask? Instead I spent my day at the Victoria Market, haggling to get $5 off a new straw trilby, ogling the array of cheeses on display and buying ricotta gnocchi from a lady who could barely be seen from underneath the hanging pasta that adorned her shop front window.

I thought this day was pretty much bliss until I saw these photos. Dam you Riccardo Tisci and your impossible haute couture perfection.

I'm not going to lie, I'm not one for lots of colour or big on pretty feminine dresses but every once in a while I succumb to the girlie girl buried deep within and fall a little in love with all things, lace, pretty and sequinned.

However, when I logged onto mycatwalk.com last week to scope the latest in season fare, I nearly died at the sight of all the divine new items available for pre-order. Camilla and Marc got my heart when they offered up their ivory lace cherry frock and then Willow stole it completely with their cut wave dress.

But just when I thought my tastes had changed and I'd become a real lady, I spied a pair of Camilla and Marc re-cut biker leggings and their series of Grand Prince shoulder pad-studded tees and returned to my rock chick (wannabe) roots faster than you can say leather.

Now please help me choose which item I am allowed to put on my credit card this month??

chloe watch

It's been a while since I have seen Chloe lurking about the social pages or the party scene slide shows at style.com

Needless to say she has returned with a swagger only Sevigny could pull off and how I have missed her quirky style so. In the past week she has made appearances at the MOCA New 20th Anniversary Gala & after party, then there was Prada's book launch cocktail party and lastly Tom Ford's 'A Single Man' Closing night soiree.

As always she was rocking the mismatched look to perfection. Because who wouldn't think to pair a sequined high neck blouse with a floral skirt or to wear a twin set cardigan with exposed lingerie?

Oh just to have the presence, the pizazz and the gusto that our dear Chloe does...just for one day.

a field of sequins

Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival is often a mine field for the bold and the beautiful. A race that stops the nation aside, it is a viewing platform or alternatively a catwalk for those in the fashion know.
Sometimes however all this glamour gets lost amongst the trash found sprawled on the well manicured lawns at the end of the day, the withered home made fascintators and the too short/barely there excuse for a dress. You will mainly find all the above loitering around the general admission area on race day.

However there was a shining light to be found this past weekend at Caulfield Cup. And no I'm not talking about Miranda Kerr (in fact I was quite disappointed with what she brought to the table). I speak instead of a beacon of sequins that shone bright in the members area...and send my kudos to the lovely lass who took to the track in those gold sequined harem pants. You my dear were impossibly chic.

They often say sequins and pants or shorts of any kind are a fashion faux pas for race day but I am one to disagree....provided of course you have the cheek to pull it off with a sprinkling of class
For if Jean Shrimpton could get away with bending the rules ever so slightly then why can't the rest of us?
