lady love

I hate to admit it because its so cliched....but I have some serious lady love for Christine Centenera. Yes so does every other blogger on this earth but I feel that by finally putting pen to paper (or should that be keyboard to blog), that my first post on this it girl is my right of passage in the blogging world.
She the fashion editor of Australia's Harpers Bazaar (yes we can actually claim this one as our own) has sparked a frenzy of street fashion phenomena. The girl never has an off day and is what I would consider to be somewhat of a poster girl for the in season shoulder pad. So whilst most of the fashion elite are fighting off claims they have had a face lift, our dear Christine has proudly announced that she isn't one to shy away from a little lift in the shoulder department.

Her forte is shoes (her collection sends my heart into a platform heeled flutter), her legs are envious and her clothing I cannot even begin to describe. Except to say that her style is edgy -she pairs fur with studs and leather making it look like black and white are the odd couple. She does casual chic with ease one day and then sends you into a tail spin the next by wearing a dress of a kaleidoscope of colours and patterns combined with mismatched shoes that work so well you wonder if your eyes are actually deceiving you?

It is without hesitation that I can say that Centenera is fashion centuries ahead of the rest of us.

slacking off this summer

Slacks, trousers, kegs...the humble pant has many a name and without doubt, many a style. Of the minute however, you can't seem to go past the silk drawn harem pant. Sashaying down catwalks for miles, harem pants have been the light weight option that has shone bright this European summer. Seen on the fashion set at catwalk shows in colours of dusty pink, Chloe draped white silks and the ubiquitous goes-with-everything nero black - the harem pant has made a comeback of notable proportions.

So as we edge into warmer territory on this side fo the world, we are setting aside our heavy weight jeans and slipping on what the euro's have been sporting for months now (preferably a pair of the leopard print Isabel Marant kind). Meanwhile over in the northern hemisphere they are simply dragging out their finest ankle boots and in-season clogs to pair with their harem's instead.
And whilst I am the first to admit I rant and rave about my hatred for winter on a regular basis, I really am all about the harem pants, the patterned jean, the sequined legging and the wide set pant at the moment. Quite ironic really given summer is rearing its 30 plus degree head as I type. However, I am choosing to denounce the obvious and will hold my head high repeating the words, 'fashion first - appropriate seasonal weather items second'.

the model and the scarf

Once upon a time in a faraway land, known not to many of us, there were a number of off duty models who lived in various loft apartments throughout Paris, New York, London and every other grand city in between. These models were rarely spotted off the runway without their uber skinny leg jeans, their tailored blazers, their ankle boots of suede or leather, and the piece de resistance, the humble scarf.

This short fable and its illustrations above depicts the use of the scarf as an accessory of sorts for the model. An accessory that is often wrapped several times over and around their slender necks and is often highlighted by a wavy, glossy mane or the remaining wisps of their ballerina buns. In short, the scarf is their trademark and my-oh-my don't they own it well.
